SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. --

Tuesday morning, firefighters were still on the scene of a fire that destroyed two Seminole County businesses on Monday night. Firefighters could be seen resting, early Tuesday, after fighting the blaze for hours.

The fire started inside a furniture warehouse in Seminole County near SR-427 and Lake Mary Boulevard. The burnt furniture inside the building was still smoldering Tuesday morning, after firefighters thought they had defeated the blaze Monday night.

The intense flames reignited around 8:30 Monday evening, two hours after the blaze started. Investigators said they believe the fire started in the back of building, near the fabrication shop. It then worked its way to the roof, where it quickly spread.

A portion of the roof collapsed, making it difficult for investigators to inspect. More than 50 firefighters initially responded to the blaze on Monday.

Tuesday, the weather was definitely playing a role in the battle to regain control over the flames.

"We tried to stop it a number of times, but unfortunately with the wind and the fuel load it was just simple science. It kind of took over from there. Unfortunately, we weren't able to stop it," said Greg Kirby of the Seminole County Fire Department.

The case was handed over to the State Fire Marshal's Office and, once the site is deemed safe for inspection, the Fire Marshal will begin a formal investigation.
