Uncleaned Chimney Spreads New Mexico Blaze

The blaze quickly spread, extensively damaging the chimney and second floor of the home, officials said.

An overnight fire that started in a fireplace quickly spread inside an Albuquerque home.

Offiicals said just before 11 p.m., Bernalillo County fire officials were called to a home in the 1900 block of Mae in southwest Albuquerque.

Authorities said a resident started the fire in a fireplace that had not been used in four years.

The blaze quickly spread, extensively damaging the chimney and second floor of the home, officials said.

Fire officers said the blaze was a reminder for residents to have their chimneys cleaned each year.
