According to neighbors, Steven Boyer, 35, fought off firefighters as his North County home was burning to the ground. A judge in Vista called Boyer's actions extremely serious and set his bail at $1 million.
Boyer pleaded not guilty to one felony count of resisting arrest, one misdemeanor account of interfering with firefighters and one misdemeanor count of being under the influence of methamphetamine. He faces up to three years in prison.
Neighbors reported that Boyer's Escondido home on Inspiration Lane was on fire at about 5:20 p.m on Friday. They also said a man was jumping up and down and threatening anyone who came near.
Firefighters said they jumped on the man and subdued him when he came out a garage door.
Escondido fire officials have determined the cause of the fire was arson. It is possible that Boyer could also be charged with arson, reported NBC 7/39.
