Kansas City Firefighter Trapped after Porch Collapses

Officials reported that no one was seriously hurt.
A firefighter was trapped briefly in debris when a porch collapsed while battling a house fire in the 1000 block of East Missouri Avenue. KMBC reported that some firefighters were on the porch and some were underneath it when it gave way just after 2 a.m. "In this instance, we had a trapped firefighter. We didn't know his condition. They were able to reach him within a minute and to basically rescue him from the debris. He was trapped basically from the torso up," Battalion Chief Joe Vitale said. No one was seriously hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Neighbors told KMBC that the landlord was evicting a tenent on the first floor of the building.
