Several firefighters were injured in Pella Sunday in an explosion.

The blast happened at the American Wood Fiber Plant, which is next door to the Pella window plant.

Police said the explosion blew the top off a storage tower and set fire to the lower level of the wood plant and some shipping trailers. Three firefighters were injured and one was airlifted to a Des Moines Hospital.

A second explosion also damaged some fire equipment and firefighters moved back to a safer spot. The Pella Fire Department called in the state fire marshal to investigate.
