CLAY, N.Y.-- A volunteer firefighter is accused of accidentally shooting a fellow volunteer at Moyers Corners Fire Station One on Route 57 in Clay.

The shooting happened inside the firehouse just after 6:30pm Sunday.

Deputies charged Stanley Memmelaar, 26, with reckless endangerment, assault and DWI.Investigators say Memmelaar accidentally shot Tyler Drake, 21, in the arm and chest while they were at Station One Sunday night.

Deputies say Memmelaar was drunk when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

Drake is expected to recover from his wounds, investigators said.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Department says Memmelaar was a Sheriff's Deputy recruit, but failed to successfully complete the field portion of his training. The Sheriff's Department would not say why, only that he was let go in August.
