TACOMA, Wash. --
Firefighters rescued a worker who became trapped on the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge Thursday morning, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.
According to KIRO 7 reporter Kevin McCarty, the Tacoma Narrows Constructors employee, a cement finisher, was working inside a shaft on the southeastern tower and was being lowered from the deck level down toward the water when he became entangled in a safety line and became stranded.
The man contacted his supervisor who then called 911 at about 9:50 a.m.
The Tacoma Fire Department said the worker was about 140 feet below the deck level inside the tower.
A technical rescue team secured the man and lowered him to safety.
Video from Chopper 7 showed the man coming out of the bridge on a stretcher and put into an ambulance at about 11:20 a.m.
The worker was reported to have a leg injury, but the extent of his injuries is unknown.
