ARLINGTON, Va. --
A fire truck has been involved in a wreck at U.S. Route 233 and U.S. Route 1 in Arlington, police said.
News4's Tracee Wilkins reported that the Airports Authority fire truck assigned to Reagan National Airport was headed to a fire in Alexandria when it overturned on the Route 233 offramp to southbound Route 110.
Witnesses said the truck came around a corner too fast, causing it to tip.
Wilkins said a passerby saw the incident and helped to pull one of the firefighters from the truck.
"I pulled over ... and me and another guy jumped on top and grabbed the only firefighter who could actually get out," said Derek Ortize. "Then we made sure the other guys were OK enough so we could wait for (help)."
There were three more firefighters inside the truck. Two were trapped and the third refused to leave the other two behind, Wilkins reported.
"He didn't want to leave his driver," Ortize said.
It took rescue workers about an hour to cut the men from the truck, Wilkins reported.
Officials were able to turn the fire truck back over shortly after 11 a.m., News4 reported. They had to tie down the top of the truck -- the part that rescuers cut open -- before they could tow the fire truck away.
Four firefighters in all were transported to local hospitals. There was no immediate word on their condition.
