An Ohio State student who was arrested on arson charges following Saturday's Buckeye win over Texas was indicted on Friday in connection with the fire.

Jeffrey Allen Peters, 19, of Findlay, was indicted on charges of felony arson, according to a statement released by Prosecutor Ron O'Brien's office.

The couch fire was set in front of 1818 Summit St., near the campus. Officials said it caused more than $500 in damage to a car that was parked next to where the couch was set on fire.

Police said some students and non-students that were interviewed by the media said that it is a tradition to set couches and Dumpsters on fire after football victories.

According to O'Brien's office, continued participation in setting fires will carry a heavy penalty.

Code enforcement officers patrolled the campus area on Friday, enforcing a ban on furniture on front porches.

Garbage collectors also hit the streets, clearing all Dumpsters along Pearl Alley, leaving little trash to burn.

Arson is a fourth-degree felony and is punishable by imprisonment in a state penitentiary for up to 18 months and a $5,000 fine.
