(New York - WABC, November 8, 2005) - The facade of a building under construction partially collapsed on the Lower East Side this morning, causing authorities to close local streets.
The incident at 153 East Houston Street, at the cross of Allen Street, caused local streets to be closed through the area. A 15-foot by 15-foot section of the facade of the five-story building was reported to have collapsed just after 11:30 a.m. Work was being done on the building at the time of the collapse. A large hole was visible on the fourth floor.
Construction workers were evacuated from the building, but no injuries were reported.
The NYC Transit Authority tells Eyewitness News that subway service was effected on the F and V lines.
F trains have been rerouted to the A line from Jay Street in Brooklyn to West 4th St. in Manhattan and the V line service is suspended between West 4th St. and 2nd Ave in Manhattan.
