A man was found dead behind a Sacramento home Friday morning after apparently being electrocuted by downed power lines.

Authorities said fire crews received a number of calls about downed power lines in the area of Watt Avenue and Arden Way in the Arden Manor area and advised residents at a home at 1433 Watt Ave. to stay indoors while they went to warn neighbors.

Firefighters said when they returned to the home where the downed lines were reported, the body of man was found in the backyard. The 20-year-old man had been electrocuted.

"It's really kind of a shock to us. When we give folks directions they usually follow them and stay safe," Sacramento Metro Fire Capt. Steve Turner said.

Authorities said they believe the man went outside to put out a small fire.

SMUD crews were called to the scene to de-energize the power line.
