There were no injuries.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio --

A fire caused an explosion inside a vacant house in Springfield late Tuesday night.

Battalion chief Marc Lloyd said there were firefighters inside the engulfed house in the 100 block of Shaffer Street when the explosion happened.

No one was injured in the fire or explosion.

The flashback "has to do with thermal layering and the temperature, smoke and gases getting to the perfect mixture, causing an explosion," Lloyd said.

Lloyd said the fire started around 11 p.m. and took about an hour to extinguish.

Fire marshals were called to the scene to investigate. Officials said the fire was suspicious.
