ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. --

An Orange County woman was so shocked when lightning struck her home, she fainted. The lightning sparked a fire, as she lay unconscious in the burning home.

"Just the shock just about scared me. I just lost it and fell down," said Wanda Smith

Wanda ran next door for help, but then ran back to grab her purse, when she panicked and fainted.

"I seen the smoke come out of the ducts and vents," said Smith.

Luckily, a deputy was nearby, and heard the call go out on his radio about the burning home on 19th Street in the Holden Heights area.

When Corporal David Spall got there he saw a neighbor waving for help on the porch, so he rushed through the front door.

He found Wanda Smith on the floor in a back bedroom. "I couldn't get her to wake up," said Spall.

The smoke was building inside. So I threw her over my shoulder and was walking her out of the house," explained Spall.

By then Deputy Aaron Blankenship had also arrived on the scene. "I pretty much just helped him carry her to a safe house away."

Moments later firefighters arrived and put out the flames in a back bedroom.

Paramedics said Smith wasn't injured, just disoriented.

Wanda said she can't imagine what would have happened to her if the deputies didn't save her.

"It was a surprise. I didn't know anybody was around," said Smith.

Firefighters got the fire out before it could cause any structural damage.
