A Kingston firefighter remains in serious condition in hospital after tumbling out of a fire truck en route to a fire on the weekend.

Tracy Killoran, 33, a volunteer with Kingston Fire & Rescue, was injured after hitting the pavement when a door opened while the truck turned north onto Gardiners Road from Princess Street.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour and Kingston Police are investigating the accident.

The firefighters from the Woodbine Road station were backing up the main force, heading out to an accident on Hwy. 401. The call came in at about 2:45 p.m. Sept. 9.

Killoran, who has two young children, suffered head injuries. She was not wearing a helmet, which fire officials say is standard procedure while riding in the truck.

"There’s a heavy cloud over the station," says Inspec. Rob Kidd, as Killoran's prognosis is not known.

While only three months with the Kingston Force, Killoran was an experienced firefighter who came to the city from the South Frontenac Fire Department.
