Explosion Levels Iowa Farmhouse

The homeowner had just walked outside when his house exploded.

An explosion leveled an eastern Iowa farmhouse.

The blast happened at about 6 p.m. Thursday in Olin, just east of Cedar Rapids.

Homeowner Ed Mulligan, 52, noticed an unusual scent in the basement and went outside. Moments later, his house exploded.

He was trapped under a wall, but escaped with minor injuries.

Five fire departments fought the blaze.
