Investigators believe the same group may have returned to destroy the building.

An arson investigation is underway after someone intentionally set a fire in a Central Ohio apartment building Friday morning.

The fire broke out at an apartment building on East 6th Avenue at about 2:45 a.m., NBC 4 's Barbra Flannigan reported.

The building sustained $12,000 in damages during a previous fire in June, officials said. Now, investigators said they believe the same group of people may have returned to destroy the building.

"We jumped up and looked out the back window and we saw flames coming from the back side of the abandoned building," said Monet Smith, a witness. "It just started raging out of control."

Investigators ruled that Friday morning's fire was arson.

"It just don't make no sense," Smith said.

Firefighters arrived at the scene quickly because they were a few blocks away, fighting another suspicious fire inside a closet at another apartment, Flannigan reported.

No injuries were reported in either fire.

Investigators said they have no suspects, and the building will be demolished.

Damages to the apartment building were estimated at $10,000. Two homes near the building also sustained damages, in an amount totaling $10,500.
