Nearly 100 people were displaced because of an apartment fire Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at Ardsley Apartments on Sunset Drive near Academy Street. Several ambulance and fire units responded to the scene at about 1:39 p.m.
Investigators said kids were playing in a bedroom when they knocked a lamp on to a bed, breaking the lamp bulb and causing the bed to catch fire.
Erica Nava, 24, had just moved into the complex about a month ago. She said what few items she had were destroyed. She's staying at a motel until she can move into another apartment.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. There were no other injuries, though a few children were checked for precautionary reasons.
The fire was contained to one apartment building.
The Red Cross and Forsyth County EMS were working to provide food, clothing and shelter to the affected families. Those who lost an apartment in the fire can call 336-724-0511 for assistance.
