Ohio firefighter will spend a week in a Mississippi town providing relief.

UNION CITY, Ohio --

Union City, Ohio firefighter Derek Copp does not want the people in Mississippi and Louisianna to think that everyone has forgotten about them.

For that reason, Derek has reposnded to a news article about firefighters in Pearlington, Miss. seeking relief from brother and sister firemen as they continue to live within the destruction of hurricane Katrina. Copp is recruiting up to six fire fighters to spend a week in Pearlington providing relief for firefighters.

Copp said the fire department in Pearlington has gone from 35 to 10 members, while their calls for service have increased from 800 a year to 2,400.

The local firemen plan to leave Union City the morning of Sept. 16, and make the 890-mile trip back home on September 23.

Anyone wanting more information or who would like to support their efforts can call Copp at 937-459-6209.
