Georgia Firefighters Recovering from Injuries

Aug. 11, 2006

Two local firefighters were hurt when they fell through a floor while battling a blaze in Lawrenceville. The house fire was sparked by lightning just before 6pm Thursday.

One of those firefighters was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Neighbors report fierce lightning and intense thunder before the fire broke out.

They called 911 and firefighters worked to douse the blaze that moved from the home's ground floor through to its attic.

The 4 adults and 2 children who live at the home on Waverly Drive were not home at the time, but 5 family pets were.

Firefighters managed to save 2 cocker spaniels hiding under a bed, and a cat. Two other cats didn't make it. The house had significant damage.
