Firefighters will be back on the scene Friday morning of a 400+-acre woods fire about 10 miles west of Callahan.
Fire officials said a lightning strike originally sparked the blaze Wednesday night, but that it was quickly contained to 80 acres by early Thursday morning.
But with the afternoon heat and winds, the fire began to spread and has burned more than 400 acres.
"Firefighters had a successful evening Thursday," said Annaleasa Winter, a wildfire mitigation specialist for the Florida Division of Forestry. "Some of the firefighters were able to go home, but they'll be back at it Friday morning."
At about 7 p.m. Thursday, the fire continued to burn about a mile from the nearest home, but no evacuations were ordered.
By 5 a.m., Winter said the fire was 25 percent contained.
