NEW ORLEANS --

New Orleans fire officials found a 54-year-old woman unconscious in the closet of a home where there was a one-alarm fire Monday.

Firefighters were called to the 6900 block of Salem Drive in New Orleans East just before 1 p.m.

They had to cut through an iron fence, and the victim's husband gave them a key to open an iron security door before they could get into the home.

The woman later was pronounced dead.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
