ORLANDO, Fla. --

Channel 9 was on the scene Thursday night when a major fire threatened two Orlando homes.

Orlando firefighters said the blaze started in the back shed of one home, spread into the house, and then crept over to the outside of the house next door. One man suffering from Parkinson's was inside the first home when it caught on fire, but made it out okay.

Crews were able to knock out both fires before they caused any severe damage.

"If the crews did not get here and get aggressive with the interior in tact and get as quick on the scene as they were, we had the potential damage of two residences instead of one," said District Chief J.R. Saez of the Orlando Fire Department.

Firefighters said the man inside the first home thought he smelled a funny odor around the house. The State Fire Marshal's Office was on the scene Friday morning to investigate what started the fire.

No one was injured.
