2 Killed in Houston Apartment Fire

HOUSTON --

Two people died in a southeast Houston apartment fire early Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston firefighters said the blaze broke out at a complex on Alvin Street near Cullen Boulevard at about 12:45 a.m.

Firefighters rushed into a burning unit to rescue trapped residents.

Four people, including a 2-year-old, were transported to Ben Taub Hospital with severe burns.

A 13-year-old and an adult died at the hospital, officials said. Their identities were not released.

One unit was destroyed and several were damaged, officials said. Detectives said the fire may have started in a bedroom.

Arson investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
