Two Houses Burn in Florida Neighborhood
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. --
Osceola County firefighters called to one house fire had to quickly divert when another nearby home went up in flames Wednesday morning.
According to the Osceola County Fire Department, the first fire started when an occupant left the house with a candle burning in the front bedroom. That's where the fire originated.
The fire quickly worked its way to a hallway and into a second bedroom. When firefighters arrived around 2:45 Wednesday morning, flames had already destroyed almost half of the house.
The Osceola County Fire Marshal ruled the fire an accidental one. Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other homes, but just two miles away another fire started around 5:00am.
Both fires happened in the Buena Ventura Lakes neighborhood in Osceola County.
The second fire burned through the roof of a home occupied by seven people. A neighbor was alerted to the fire and tried to help put it out with a garden hose, but was unable to dent the flames.
The Osceola County Fire Department, who was finishing up with the first fire in the neighborhood, arrived on the scene and were able to extinguish the flames.
The Osceola County Fire Marshal said the cause of the second fire was still being determined, but the man who owns the home said he thinks it was an electrical fire. The seven people living in the home, including four children, will need to find a new place to stay because the house was ruled unlivable.
