CARNEGIE, Pa. --

More than two dozen people were forced out of their apartments in Carnegie overnight when a fire broke on the fourth floor out at the Honus Wagner Apartments just before midnight.

People in three floors of the apartments were not allowed back in their units because of heavy smoke and water damage.

Officials said half of the 132 residents are elderly, disabled or people with special needs.

Firefighters and EMS units from Carnegie and five surrounding communities assisted in getting everyone out of the building.

The Port Authority provided buses for some people to stay in, get warm and dry out.

The Allegheny County fire marshal is at the scene.

Some residents told Channel 11 they will stay with relatives or move to other units.

The Red Cross is also offering assistance to six adults with food, clothing and temporary shelter.
