Constantia, N.Y. (WSYR - TV)-- Thirteen firefighters were injured last night after an explosion at a home that had caught fire on Saunders Drive in Constantia. One of the firefighters remains in the hospital, and is expected to be released tomorrow.

The injured firefighter in the hospital is Tony LaRock. LaRock is West Amboy Fire Department’s Assistant Chief. He suffered two broken vertebrae in his back. He is listed in fair condition at Crouse Hospital.

One of the other injured firefighters is John Hinds. He is a firefighter with the Cleveland Fire Department, and also serves as Oswego County’s Fire Coordinator. Hinds suffered second degree burns to his hands, and first degree burns to his face. He was released from University Hospital around noon today.

We do not know who the 11 other firefighters are.

All of the injured firefighters serve with either the Cleveland Fire Department, Constantia Fire Department, or West Amboy Fire Department.

According to the Oswego County Office of Emergency Management, 911 received a call around 7:53 PM last night from a person living inside the home on Saunders Drive. The person reported seeing smoke in the house.

At 8:39 PM, an explosion happened while the firefighters were battling the fire. Two state fire investigators are at the scene today trying to determine both the cause of the fire, and the cause of the explosion.

Following the explosion, about 10 ambulances were called to the scene, and took the injured firefighters to Syracuse-area hospitals.

We are told 6 fire companies responded to last night’s fire and explosion.

The home was destroyed.
