WASHINGTON --
Two firefighters were injured in an early-morning rowhouse fire in Northwest.
The 2-alarm blaze broke out just after 3 a.m. on Friday inside the rowhouse, located in the 400 block of Newton Place.
The fire started in the basement of the home, officials said.
The rowhouse where the fire started was vacant but the homes on each side were occupied, officials said.
Those residents had working smoke alarms and were able to exit their homes without injury, officials said.
The firefighters were transported to a local hospital with second and third degree burns. One firefighter suffered injuries to his upper body. The other suffered burns to his foot and ankle area, News4's Darcy Spencer reported.
No one else was injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
