SAWMILLS, N.C. --
A man hunting yard sales in Caldwell County found a house on fire instead, and he helped the people inside get to safety.
Firefighters from two fire departments worked to bring the blaze under control in Sawmills early Friday.
Ed Laughridge spotted the flames from the carport of the home while out with his mother. He ran to the house and broke out a window to let the people inside know there was a fire.
Im just grateful theyre OK, he said.
The Red Cross is helping the couple who lost their home find another place to live.
Investigators are still trying to pinpoint the cause of the fire.
