One of the two firefighters injured when a taxi slammed into their rig this week could be released from the hospital in a matter of days.

Mike Schunk, 41, could be released next week after having surgery on his right leg at Weill Cornell Medical Center where he is said to be in stable condition.

John Walters, 37, is at Bellevue in critical but stable condition after both of his legs were broken.

Police say a taxi rear-ended their rig on Wednesday night.

Walters was pinned between the two vehicles.

Both men are assigned to Rescue 1.
