A former firefighter has been sentenced and fined more than $2 million for setting fires in the Los Padres National Forest.

Craig Underwood pleaded guilty to setting three fires in 2004. The largest was the Arroyo Seco fire, which burned 768 acres. No one was injured in any of the fires.

Underwood was sentenced Monday to four months in federal prison, four months of home detention, three years of supervised release, 150 hours of community service and ordered to pay $2,442,000 in restitution.

Underwood was employed as a firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service. He is not allowed to seek work as a firefighter again until he serves his time and completes the supervised release.
