CHARLOTTE, N.C. --
A 15-year-old driver lost control of a van and crashed into a school bus before hitting a home and bursting into flames in north Charlotte on Monday afternoon.
The series of events happened on Fox Point Drive just after 4:30 p.m. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials said the van hit bus No. 1004, which was carrying two students from Randolph Middle School, before it slammed into the corner of a home.
The van took down some power lines during the crash, which led to a large fire that destroyed the van and the home. The siding on the house next door even melted, fire officials said.
Fortunately firefighters were able to knock out the flames fairly quickly and no one was injured.
Police said the vans driver tried to run from the scene but was quickly caught. The boy was charged with driving without a license and hit-and-run.
