Three Fires in Raleigh Keep Crews Busy

One fire is suspicious, and the others remain under investigation.

Firefighters in Raleigh have had their hands full Wednesday, extinguishing three fires hours apart.

A fire forced eight children and three adults from their apartments on Trailside Drive at around 3:15 a.m. Authorities said no one was hurt, but two apartment units were destroyed and two others have smoke and water damage

A woman who lives at one of the damaged apartments told WRAL that someone threw something through her bedroom window and the object burst into flames. The Red Cross is working with the displaced residents to find housing for them.

Earlier in the morning, another fire displaced at least 12 people at a Raleigh apartment complex. Officials said the fire happened at a duplex on Quarry Street, located near Lenoir Street, at around 1:30 a.m.

Investigators said the fire started in a top-floor unit that was under renovation. Firefighters had to wake people up in one unit and help them get out safely. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Fire investigators are also trying to figure out what sparked a third fire at a house in downtown Raleigh.

The fire happened at the corner of East Jones Street and Idlewild Avenue. Officials said the house is vacant and no one was hurt.

The fire chief said all three fires are being called suspicious due to the close proximity to one another.
