CHARLOTTE, N.C. --
Two firefighters were hurt while battling a house fire in northeast Charlotte.
One of the men, a volunteer with the Newell fire department, has life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center University.
Also, a Charlotte Fire Department firefighter was taken to Presbyterian hospital with back injuries, fire officials said.
The firefighters were trying to douse a blaze at a one-story brick home on Back Creek Church Road. Fire officials say the blaze may have started in the rear of the home shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
