Denver Firefighters Call On-Star for Help

June 30, 2006
The doors were unlocked remotely so firefighters didn't have to break the windows.

Firefighters were able to rescue two children who were accidentally locked in a hot vehicle by using the car's On-Star feature.

A mother accidentally locked her infant and toddler in a car in Greeley at Island Grove Park. When firefighters arrived, the mother of the two children was frantic and wanted the firefighters to break the window.

One of the firefighters asked if the vehicle was equipped with the On-Star feature. It turns out the car did have the feature and firefighters phoned the company. A representative from On-Star was then able to remotely unlock the vehicle so firefighters could access the two children without damaging the vehicle.

The children were uninjured by the mishap.
