Residents of a three-story apartment building were displaced after an extra-alarm fire broke out on a rear porch of the South Side building early Monday.
The fire, at 3132 S. Aberdeen St., broke out about midnight on a rear porch of the building, according to a Deering District lieutenant.

The building is an occupied three-story apartment building, according to the lieutenant.
NBC5's Sharon Wright reported that 21 occupants of the building, two of them children, were displaced. They will be staying with family and friends, the lieutenant said.
The fire, a 2-11 alarm fire, was burning on the second and third floors, according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight. The fire was under control about 12:50 p.m., he said. All residents got out safely, and no injuries were reported, Knight said.
Wright said authorities think that the fire was started by a lightning strike to the back porch of the building.
