BALTIMORE --
A 2-year-old girl has died at the hospital after a fire at a home in west Baltimore.
City fire department spokesman Kevin Cartwright said the fire was reported shortly before 5 a.m. in the first block of Payson Street.
The girl was found on the second floor in cardiac arrest with smoke inhalation and burns. Paramedics worked to resuscitate her and she was sent to University of Maryland hospital. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
The mother and five other children in the house got out safely. One firefighter suffered a minor injury.
The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes. There is no word on the cause of the fire.
