A brush fire that began Friday in Putnam County was fully contained on Sunday evening, according to the Division of Forestry.

The blaze charred more than 1,400 acres but no structures were lost.

Crews worked on Friday and Saturday creating containment lines to control the flames, which first began about 2 p.m. Friday near the Clay-Putnam county line and quickly spread south.

Between the fire department and law enforcement personnel, about 100 people fought the blaze and notified residents of the Bannerville subdivision of a voluntary evacuation on Friday afternoon.

Bardin Road was closed at Bannerville Road Friday due to the number of emergency vehicles in the area.

On Saturday morning, authorities reported that the fire was 70 percent contained and everyone was back in their homes.

The DOF announced on Sunday the fire was no longer a threat.

Crews are expected to stay at the scene of the brush fire to monitor the remaining hot spots.
