A second-alarm fire burned through two homes in Newark, N.J., leaving 16 residents homeless.

Eyewitness News is told the fire broke out at 99 Osborne Terrace just after 5 a.m. Fire burned through that home and spread to two neighboring buildings, 97 and 101 Osborne Terrace.

"We encountered some rescue problem and we were able to pull four people from 97 Osborne," said fire department spokesman John Brown.

Officials say one firefighter sustained burns to his neck and was taken to University Hospital. None of the tenants were injured.

The American Red Cross was helping the displaced residents from 97 and 99 Osborne find temporary housing. 101 Osborne Terrace was a vacant building.
