Two Sisters Die in Detriot House Fire

One neighbor said the 17-year-old went back inside the home to save her sister after she made it out safely.

A house fire in Detroit killed two sisters Friday morning.

The fire started around 8:30 a.m. in a house at Stotter Street and Van Dyke Avenue on the city's east side.

Neighbors were able to get several children out of the home. A 17-year-old woman and her 3-year-old sister died.

"Flames were extremely hot. We did everything possibly we could do to save them," Cordell Williams, a man working nearby, told Local 4.

One neighbor told Local 4 the 17-year-old went back inside the home to save her sister after she made it out safely.

"We was just trying to get out everyone that we could get out. One kid went back in to save the baby," the neighbor said.

Firefighters said the fire started in the back of the house. There is no word on what sparked it.
