Vacant Home Burns in Ohio

Nearby homes were evacuated because of the intense blaze.

Three city fire departments battled an early-morning fire Tuesday morning in East Cleveland.

Officials said a fire broke out about 3 a.m. in a home on Page Avenue and Terrace Road. The home was vacant, but families in nearby homes were evacuated because the flames were so intense.

Bright orange flames could be seen for miles.

The home next door suffered fire damage, but all nine people who lived in the home were evacuated safely.

Elliot Cook, the homeowner, said two weeks ago he changed the batteries in his smoke detectors.

"All that matters is my family is safe," Cook said.

Cook added that the family who lived in the home that caught fire moved out about four or five months ago.

East Cleveland, South Euclid and Euclid fire departments battled the blaze.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Officials are investigating.
