Firefighters from across the state were called in to battle a massive barn fire in Howard County Monday evening.

It started around 6:15 p.m. at the Pickett Farm at East Watersville Road and Old Frederick Road in the Lisbon area.

The flames were so intense, officials said, that it took firefighters from Carroll, Frederick and Montgomery counties to knock them down.

Officials said the five-alarm fire burned for hours because firefighters were having trouble getting water on the fire initially.

Bill Mould, Howard County Fire Public Information Officer, said that the fire has been contained but is still burning and it could keep burning for the next two hours or so.

Investigators believe that the barn was full of hay and that aided in its ignition.

Officials said there is no word on what caused the fire and there were no reports of injuries.
