Firefighters battled a four-alarm warehouse fire in an industrial area of east Kansas City on Thursday.
Officials said the fire started near Truman Road and Interstate 435 at about 12:30 p.m.
A huge column of black smoke was visible around the city for miles.
KMBC's Maria Antonia reported that the fire started in an empty warehouse and spread to another building that housed wooden pallets, which fueled the fire. That building later collapsed.
Fire crews brought the fire under control about an hour and a half later.
No injuries were reported.
Crews in one of the buildings had been removing asbestos, and investigators said a cutting torch started the fire.
