Chicago Firefighter Hurt Battling Blaze

A firefighter was removed from the building and put into a waiting ambulance.

A fire at an abandoned building on the South Side left a firefighter injured Monday morning, NBC5 reported.

The fire broke out in an abandoned apartment building near 41st and State. At about 6 a.m., a firefighter was removed from the building and put into a waiting ambulance, NBC5's Mike Lorber reported. The ambulance remained at the scene.

Lorber said he believes the firefighter's injuries were not life-threatening.

Fire crews searched the building and did not find anyone inside.

Crews shut down 41st Street between State Street and Michigan Avenue while they worked to extinguish the fire.
