Mother, Children Escape Pennsylvania Blaze

To escape the flames, the family crawled out of a window onto a porch roof.

Fire crews were called to the scene of a blaze in Fayette County late Wednesday morning.

The three-alarm fire was reported at a home on Indian Creek Valley Road in Springfield Township.

To escape the flames, Rachel Campbell and her children, Nathan, 4, and Logan, 2, crawled out of a window onto a porch roof.

Authorities said they were too high off the ground to jump. Neighbor Maryjo Haines and an unknown passerby set a ladder up and the three got down safely, police said.

"She's just sitting there, terrified," said Haines. "She was just scared to death."

Family members said they are not worried about the house, which was gutted, but are thankful Haines and the unknown man helped.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
