The State Highway Administration said two lanes are now open on the inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway after a major accident Tuesday morning.
Images from SkyTeam 11 showed a vehicle and two tractor trailers on fire as a result of the collision on the outer loop of the Beltway near the Reisterstown Road exit. SHA spokesman David Buck said the ramps to Reistertown Road remain closed.
Maryland State Police said preliminary reports showed the driver of a passenger vehicle saw traffic congestion and tried to change lanes to avoid it. They said a tractor trailer collided with the vehicle and then struck a second tractor trailer.
Police said the people involved in the acccident only suffered minor injuries.
Buck said one of the tractor trailers was carrying paper products and continues to burn. Fire crews are bringing in foam to help quench the fire.
He said traffic on the outer loop is being diverted off at Stevenson Road to Radio Tower Road to Park Heights Avenue to Hooks Lane to Route 140 then back the the Beltway.
