A rookie firefighter in Enid is out of a job after she performed a strip tease at a bar, an apparent violation of the department's code of ethics.
However, Ashlei Wilson said she was unfairly targeted and is appealing the department's dismissal.
The department, on the other hand, said she doesn't deserve to get her job back.
"The actions of a firefighter should inspire trust and confidence with the public, and the chief as well as the commission determined that her actions did not inspire those qualities," said Enid Assistant Fire Chief Joe Jackson.
The strip tease in question happened at Crappy's Warehouse Bar in downtown Enid back in November. Wilson's attorney told Eyewitness News 5 that the 22-year-old did the dance, but he added that two off-duty police officers were present and did nothing.
He also said no charges were filed and that the termination was a disproportionate response to Wilson's behavior.
The assistant fire chief disagrees.
"The department, as well as the chief, interpreted the actions -- even though they may not be crimes -- (to be) detrimental to the public image of the department," Jackson said.
The attorney did not want to talk on camera because he did not want to jeopardize his case.
