Texas Blaze Destroys Apartment's Roof

Fire officials said the fire apparently started in the attic, and that made it even more dangerous for firefighters.

An investigation is under way after a fire ripped through the attic of a Fort Worth apartment complex, fire officials said.

Firefighters said the cause is going to be tough to pinpoint because the area where the fire started was destroyed.

The blaze broke out at about 8 p.m. at the Willows of Woodhaven apartments in the 5800 block of Havestwood Circle.

Firefighters arrived on the scene just two minutes after getting the call and the flames were already through the roof, officials said.

Some residents that were inside the building said they didn't know it was on fire until neighbors knocked on the door telling everyone to get out.

Fire officials said the fire apparently started in the attic, and that made it even more dangerous for firefighters.

"Every time they would pull some ceiling down, there was fire above them -- no matter what apartment, there was fire above them," said Lt. Ken Worley. "And that shows why the entire roof area has been burned off."

The six people living in the building were not injured, but are now displaced. Fire officials estimate $400,000 in damages.
