Three structures in downtown Escondido caught on fire on Thursday afternoon, creating a large plume of smoke that is visible from miles away.

Four stories of one of the structures, which is under construction, were fully engulfed, and the flames appeared to have spread to two other buildings. One of those buildings is also under construction.

The structures are located near the intersection of Escondido Boulevard and Woodward Avenue, just blocks from the Civic Center Plaza.
