Emergency crews worked for two hours to rescue a 28-year-old man trapped in a ditch.
The trench collapsed in Eaton Township in Lorain County just after 10 a.m. Thursday.
Lifeflight took the man to MetroHealth Medical Center.
The workers were installing a water line along Route 57 when the trench collapsed.
Officials said the man was originally trapped up to his neck in mud and clay. Rescue workers were then able to dig him out to below the chest so he could breath.
He was finally rescued just after noon.
