Dozens of residents were evacuated when a three-alarm fire broke out at a north Harris County apartment complex Monday morning, KPRC Local 2 reported.
The fire started at the Woods of Inverness apartment complex on FM 1960 at Inverness Forest Boulevard shortly before 8 a.m.
The complex was engulfed in flames when the Ponderosa Fire Department arrived on the scene.
"It appears that the fire started on the west end and there were some potential drug activities going on. However, that's alleged at this time," Ponderosa Fire Department Chief Fred Windisch said.
Several residents were treated at the scene and a teenager was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. No one was seriously injured.
"It was scary, man," resident Jesse Garcia said.
He helped rescue his friend's children.
"You couldn't breathe. It was hot in there. I started (to) faint coming out the door. I got dizzy and almost fainted," Garcia said.
Fire officials did not release information about the cause of the fire, but one person was taken into custody for questioning.
Ten apartments were destroyed.
"I got my family. That's the only thing that is a concern to me," a resident said.
